Independence Kentucky is a great place to call home. Located in Kenton County, Kentucky the City of Independence is Kenton County’s Second largest incorporated city. Founded in 1842 the City of Independence Kentucky was then located on Madison Pike. The County of Kenton was formed from portions of then Campbell County. The name for the City of “Independence” was chosen to honor the liberation of the locals from Campbell County. Independence was chosen as the county seat of governance for Kenton County. Because the majority of Kenton County’s residents resided along the Ohio River in Covington, Independence eventually shared its status as county seat with the City of Covington. Today Independence KY is one of the largest cities by land area comprising over 23 square miles. The three main thoroughfares through the city are Taylor Mill Rd (KY 16), Madison Pike (KY 17) and Richardson Road (KY 1829). The City of Independence is located in the Heart of Kenton County.
